This was one of those pretty random contracts that turn up occasionally! The job was to record and edit narration, in 6 different languages – for short (3-6 minute) DVD’s. Then create 6 alternative edits with music edited to fit the length of the film.
There were about 50 different DVD’s produced. They were attached to a postcard and sold as postcard DVD’s. Each would have a specific topic, such as Yellow Eyed Penguins, Huka Falls, Rotorua etc. Quite a fun idea really.
I would meet with the various voice talent to record the script, and then as efficently as possible edit the recording so that each paragraph synched up with the relevant part of the film.
I had developed a pretty good voice editing system by the time the contract was complete, one that I am still using and refining with each new voiceover job.
These ‘Post-a-Movies’ were sold all over NZ, although I’m not sure if they are still available. I’m sure there are still some out there somewhere.
